The retention time of gloss on the solid surface of acrylic acid

Table of Contents

The gloss retention time of the solid surface of acrylic acid is affected by multiple factors, and its specific performance needs to be analyzed in combination with the test conditions and formula characteristics:

The influence of formula and curing process

The gloss retention time of acrylic coatings is closely related to the resin system, the type of curing agent and the construction process. For instance, a formula that uses high-quality acrylic latex raw materials and optimizes curing conditions can maintain gloss stability for a relatively long time under standard test conditions (such as 25℃ and 50%RH). If UV-resistant additives are introduced into the formula, its glossiness can still remain unchanged without significant changes under long-term exposure to sunlight (such as 500 hours of 1000 watts of sunlight).

The role of environmental factors

Environmental humidity and temperature have a significant impact on the retention time of gloss. For instance, the gloss attenuation rate of acrylic coatings applied in an environment with a relative humidity of no more than 85% is reduced by over 30% compared to when the humidity is too high. In addition, if the coating comes into contact with water before it is fully cured, especially in dark or low-temperature conditions, the gloss may decline prematurely due to surface defects.

Test standards and result differences

The gloss retention time varies under different test standards. For instance, according to the GB/T9754-2007 standard, when the initial gloss of acrylic coatings measured by a 60° Angle gloss meter is ≥80°, it may drop to around 70° under simulated natural aging conditions (such as 1000 hours of xenon lamp exposure), but the specific degree of attenuation needs to be adjusted in combination with the formula and process.

Performance in practical applications

In practical applications, the gloss retention time of acrylic coatings is also affected by the substrate treatment, coating thickness and maintenance methods. For instance, insufficient cleanliness of the substrate surface or uneven coating thickness may lead to a rapid decline in local gloss. Regular cleaning and avoiding mechanical scratches can extend the gloss retention time of the coating to several years.
